Staying with us:

Masterji writes recently:

Divine self,

Master ji and Lakshmi thank all the students who came to
Bangalore and stayed in their students' house. The students'
house was run for a long time. Now, for the last few years
Master ji and Lakshmi incurred a huge loss and they decided
that it should be closed. They feel sad to do so but the
increase in cost of maintenance has gone beyond the income.
They [are] left with no option but to close because they are
not in a position spend the money from their side any more.

From September 2007, the students? house will be closed.

Now, there are many paying guest accommodations in
J.P. Nagar area. Many students had already found the place
to stay and they are more resourceful than Master ji and
Lakshmi. So, it will not be difficult for them if they come
to Bangalore.

Master ji and Lakshmi thank all the students who were in
their students' house.

Yours in yoga

Master ji and Lakshmi

Accommodations near the Yoga shala

Hotels and now several "paying guest" situations are available. They may be more or less expensive and of varying qualities. If you are arriving to Bangalore in the wee hours you will likely want to take a hotel that first night

Students, please write to Steeve with paying guest location and contact information and I will start a directory here.

The Lodge!

Masterji writes recently: "There is a lodge near our yoga shala where there are rooms to stay. The details of the lodge are: SRI SHANKARI COMFORTS # 27, Opposite State Bank of Mysore, (near Rajshekar Nursing Home), 9th Cross, J.P. Nagar 1st Phase BANGALORE 560 078. [sscomforts at vsnl dot net ~ Phone: 91-80-26639722/23/24]

The lodge is near Indira Gandhi circle and about five minutes walk to our yoga shala.

The students can also find accommodation in Sri Aravinda Bhavan, which is a little farther away, on the same road."

Directions to the Yoga studio from the airport...

Take an autorikshaw or a cab/taxi. Cab for heavy luggage or more comfort, autorikshaw for quick budget travel. If you book a pre-paid taxi from inside the airport, the charge will be around Rs.400=00. Independent cabs hired just outside the airport terminal may ask for a little more money. Ask the driver to go to Sarakki, Indira Gandhi circle in J.P. Nagar, a small rotary of four cross roads. Turn to right in that circle (i.e. 9th cross). Second road to the left is 3B Main Road. See the NAVODAYA BAKERY on the corner. The studio is #4 at the end of the street on the left. Go through the gate and during class times, simply climb the stair above the car pad to the 3rd level (2nd floor), otherwise ring the bell. For new students it is fine to arrive late to asana or satsanga. Please do not disturb the pranayama or mantra classes by arriving late if you are attending them for the first time. If you find yourself in this situation, try the main house on the ground floor instead or simply wait on the roof for the class to finish.

If arriving via overnight bus from Chennai/Madras...

Generally, the bus stops at Subhashnagar bus stop. It is the main bus terminal. From there the autorikshaw charge will be Rs.70=00 during the day time and one and half times the meter reading during the night times. If you are carrying a lot of luggage, the driver may ask a few rupees more. Some buses go to Kalasipalyam/City Market bus terminal. From there also, the autorikshaw charge will be almost the same. The buses often stop in two or three places in the suburbs before reaching the central terminal. You may be able to get down closer to JP Nagar (the suburb where the studio is located). Just ask toward the end of the bus journey. Someone will know. Once down, grab an autorikshaw and refer to the above directions.

This bus ride is not at all expensive, but it is also not very much fun. Plan to 'go' just before you get on the bus. They'll give you a bottle of water as part of the exemplary en-route service. Having earplugs and one of those inflatable neck pillow thingies may prove comforting. The bus will stop once. It will not be pretty. If you have to 'go' at that point, take a flashlight and just try to find a secluded spot. If it's been raining, try not to slip on the mud and fall down. Trust me that ones capacity for embarrassment knows no bounds even after hours of jostled wakefulness.
